Introduction
There are different forms of bullying that people go through and experience the torture that is associated with bullying. The type of bullying that Amanda Todd was subjected to include the social bullying where her reputation was destroyed in the society and among the people that knew her, such as friends in school, by exposing personal pictures that contained her boobs. The social bullying made Amanda Todd lose friends who never wanted to remain friends with her (Peter, 2018). The second type of bullying that Amanda Todd experienced was the physical bullying where she was beaten in school. Amanda was rescued by the teachers from the beating by the students.
There are consequences that Amanda faced as a result of the bullying. The consequences include psychological effects such as depression and low self-esteem because one feels that they are lesser human beings compared to other people in society (Menesini & Salmivalli, 2017). The psychological effects are internal and make Amanda feel that there is no need to continue living. The second consequence is the physical effects where Amanda got injured from the beating she received from fellow students. She even went to the hospital to get medication from the beating. Physical consequence results in an injury of the victim and may even cause death (Menesini & Salmivalli, 2017). The last consequence that Amanda got from the bullying is that her education was affected. Her school work was affected because she opted to keep changing school to escape the bullying. The changing of the schools and the seeking of medical attention are attempts Amanda made to deal with the bullying.
Amanda's' parents, teachers, and authorities had a role to play in ensuring that the bullying stop and prevented possible suicide. The teachers should have punished the students who found bullying Amanda for others to learn that buying is unacceptable. The teachers have the responsibility of maintaining discipline in school to prevent students from being bullied by their colleagues (Menesini & Salmivalli, 2017). The parents, on the other hand, had the responsibility of protecting Amanda by inquiring from the school why other students were bullying Amanda. Parents need to protect their children from any torture. The authorities also had the obligation of taking action against the students who bullied Amanda and the teachers for failing to take action and prevent bullying in school.
There is a difference between the bullying that I experienced during my time in high school and the experience that Amanda experienced. During my time, all the first years in high school used to be bullied by older students. The bullying was not directed to one person like Amanda experienced the bullying alone. The bullying during my time was only physical. The similarity is that students used to seek transfer to escape the bullying. The other similarity is that teachers did not take any action to stop the bullying. Students suffered in silence from the teachers.
Conclusion
The key contributing factors that cause bullying in school is where senior students want to revenge from the bullying that they experienced when they were the first year. Other students bully their colleagues because of the peer pressure that they get from their colleagues (Peter, 2018). The prevention strategies that can be used to prevent bullying entails schools coming up with the code of conduct that the students re supposed to maintain and the consequences. The other prevention measure is educating the students on the dangers of bullying their colleagues. Students also need to understand how they can defend themselves by not exposing themselves to potential bullies.
