Racism is a belief that race is more superior or inferior to the other. Racism tends to rely on the basis that a person's moral upbringing, social life is determined by one's biological race (Alang 663). Racism has existed in the olden days and also the entire human history, it has caused hatred and havoc between different races since one race chooses to hate the other due to reasons like the skin color, language, and culture.
Slavery on the Western side of the world started to inform of slavery of Africans. The Westerners termed the Africans as mere "savages," and the Africans were enslaved, oppressed, beaten up, and forced to work on the European farms under harsh climatic conditions and also minimum wages (Payne et al., 11693). Even the colonists implemented this type of Enslavement of the black people. Like in the case of South-Africa, the whites regarded oneself as more superior as to the other, thus implanted the rule of Apartheid that brought about segregation between the two races (Payne et al., 11695). The two races developed different institutions, schools, hospitals, and even churches to serve the two different communities, also intermarrying between the two races was considered as a curse, thus not encouraged.
The minority races, the ones who got oppressed, went through a lot, including physical violence, received insults from the other race, and also disrespects. In terms of employment, the oppressed race was given a low-status job but no administrative jobs (Boyd 259). The black race is not the only one that got enslaved or oppressed. The Nazis, Germans, always oppressed, discriminated, and also prosecuted the Jews.
Implementations on How to Reduce Racial Discrimination
Encourage Diversity Groups on School Grounds
School leaders should encourage diversity in a school setting, aid in interacting freely between the two different races (Andersen and Guul 430). It will aid in developing and respecting cultural differences, but also, the students will be able to embrace each other without relying on their ethnic differences to make decisions.
Create safe zones within communities and neighborhoods
The creation of committees that will hold all races at one meeting is essential. It will aid in making the other race feel unique and worthy and thus bringing about embracing new ideas from the other race that will aid in improving the neighborhood in terms of lifestyle and how they relate to each other (Andersen and Guul 431). Furthermore, the neighborhood will learn to respect each other and not based on one's race differences.
Reduction of Racial Discrimination
It is conducting forums and events to raise awareness to reduce racial discrimination. The leaders from different races should team up and come up with a plan that involves the community members to clear racism (Barnes and Motz 2332). The teaming up of leaders will help motivate the members of the community also to accept the changes that the leaders have put in place and that it is essential.
Provision of Support to Celebrate Traditions of Different Racial Groups
The community involved should set aside a day in the calendar to celebrate the traditions of the other racial groups. By providing the different races and sponsoring them, it will aid in empowering them and also give the other ethnic groups a sense of belonging in the community (Alang 663).
Encourage Communication Between Police and Community
There is an increased number of demonstrations across different states caused by the killing of an African American George Floyd by a law enforcement agent and has raised alarms across the country due to an injustice killing of an innocent man (Boyd 258). The police department should ensure to have a diverse workforce that includes hiring from different ethnic groups in society (Alang et al.). Also, the creation of strict conditions within the police department to help curb the gender biases and also use of force toward the other ethnic groups in the society.
Conclusion
The race discrimination practices should be rendered inhuman, and thus, it involves the killing of the minority groups in order to gain a place in the society is wrongdoing. The society should learn to embrace the differences of other minority groups but also relate to them as equals. It will aid in reducing racial discrimination.
