Introduction
The civil war is an event that took place in America between the years 1861 to 1865. Even though America's revolution was created in 1783, the conflict resolved the questions that were left unresolved as to whether the U.S was to become a dissolvable confederation of the sovereign state of a nation that is invisible (Taylor 114). The war also answered the query whether the country is born of a declaration that citizens had equal rights to liberty and if the slaveholding still existed. The American Civil war was also the most destructive and most significant conflict that took place in the Western world between the onset of the First World War in 1914 and the end of the 1815 Napoleonic wars (Taylor 134). The essay will elaborate more on how slavery activated the civil war
The civil war began because of the differences between the slave and Free states over the national government powers to prohibit slaves that were not in the states. The elaboration of civil war, in other words, was because of the moral issues concerning slavery. The civil war was also caused because of the economics of political and slavery control of systems that had conflicts. The Southern states' aim was to control the federal government to abolish the federal laws they never supported (Horne 58). The reason behind this move is because the laws interfered with the rights of keeping slaves to the South and also take them anywhere they wished.
Another reason is because of territorial expansion. The wish of the South was to divert the slavery to the western territories because the North wanted to retain them to the white labor. Since the Republican Party was newly formed, members opposed the idea of the westward expansion of slavery to the states to prevent them from gaining prominence. It was in 1860 when Abraham Lincoln sealed the deal during the election of the Republican (Boman 354). The victory of Lincoln was also a clear sign to the Southern that they lost power. As a result, the southerners felt they were excluded from the political system, and this led to secession and then to war.
When Abraham Lincoln became successful in 1860, he pledged to keep slavery away from the seven slave states and territories to the Deep South to form a new nation. The Lincoln administration and the Northern people, however, refused the legitimacy of secession (Boman 358). The group also feared it would form a discredit democracy and develop a fatal precedent that would fragment America into squabbling small countries.
The event also triggered war coming from Fort Sumter in 1861 after America claimed the area as theirs (Boman 369). This made the Confederate army to open fire on the federal garrison to cause America to surrender. In return, Lincoln suppressed the rebellion. As a result, four more slaves' states joined and seceded the confederacy. At the end of 1861, almost a million armed soldiers stretched to 1200 miles from Virginia to Missouri (Boman 381). The move created several battles around the western Virginia mountains and the Manassas junction. The union victories managed to create the new state of Virginia on Missouri's Wilson's Creek and the Port Royal located in South Carolina.
Conclusion
