Introduction
The life of being a student requires an individual to think quickly on his feet in solving problems. Education equips students with first-hand information that allows them to think intensively and critically. As a student at Chicago University, I was tasked with a project that will help in addressing gender inequality in our society. Gender inequality is a global issue that countries are trying to eradicate in their systems. Therefore, I was required to look for different ways that can help in addressing gender equality in society.
In the 21st century, women's involvement in different fields remains to be a considerable challenge. For instance, in the area of engineering, people tend to believe that women are not required to be given equal chances compared to men. People have stereotypes that believe that engineering jobs require masculinity, and women cannot be effective. This approach has denied women opportunities in the field of engineering in securing employment in the market. Therefore, there is a need to educate society on the importance of empowering women.
Empowering Women Based on Their Performance
Companies are coming up with effective ways of empowering women based on their performance rather than gender. Over the past few years, cases of women's promotion have raised a lot of debates compared to men. For instance, some managers tend to believe that women cannot be effective in transforming the shape of their company. This is because they have families to attend to, and they might get undivided attention in executing their duties. Therefore, this approach remains a challenge to women in getting promotions in their workplace.
Women's involvement in politics remains to be a challenge across the globe. People tend to believe that women cannot lead them regardless of their immense effort (Alexander, Bolzendahl, & Jalalzai, 2017). For instance, in the United States, the number of women elected or nominated in Congress is less compared to men. Countries have implemented the one third gender rule, but a lot of work needs to be done.
This project helped me to think critically about effective ways of empowering women in society. One, the government should create awareness and educate people on the importance of empowering women in the community. Two, the government should create job opportunities for women in administrative offices compared to men. This will help bring inclusivity in government policies (Patel, 2010). Three, the government should implement the one third gender rule in politics. This policy will increase the number of women in politics. Also, women will be able to air their grievances as well as represent the ideologies of other women. Fourth, companies should come up with effective ways of empowering women at their workplace. This can be achieved by promoting and rewarding them based on their work performance. This approach will help in improving gender equality as well as improving the performance of the company.
Conclusion
Five media houses should be at the forefront of highlighting women's success in different fields in the society. This will help in motivating women in the community regardless of their challenges. Also, there is a need to empower women to pursue education. Scholars state that by educating women, we train a whole generation. Also, the media should create campaigns that prevent the abuse of women's rights in society. Through this approach, women will be confident in pursuing their ideas as well as attaining their goals.
