Gun Control refers to the legal measures and policies which have been put across by the institutions in charge of regulations of firearms in order to minimize the illegal possession of guns, especially by the residents of the United States (Fleming, & McClain, 2014). The issue of gun control has impacted the people of the United States in a positive manner since it has helped to prevent loss of lives by means such as massive shootings or engaging in events like committing suicide whenever the person has done wrong. Also, gun control has assisted in coping with cases of crimes such as robbery as owners may tend to take advantage of it and perform the act of crime by stealing from them. I will, therefore, focus on the issues relating to gun control, evidence about the problem, and more so some of the interventions that the government should apply so as to cope with the issue successfully.
The issue of gun control is a major problem among the residents of the United States. The issue is not only affecting the adult group of people in the United States but also those who were undergoing the education process. Gun control measures have been established to help in the eradication of illegal ownership of guns. These policies and measures have played a great role since it acts as a watchdog over the institutions in charge of the production of firearms such as guns.
The issue of gun control is indeed a major threat to the residents living in the United States. This is mainly because some people have suffered a lot, especially when it comes to those who are unable to buy it. These groups of people have been discriminated against by those who possess guns, and they have ended up losing their properties and more important their lives. The government should, therefore, stand firm and take with a lot of seriousness matters relating to illegal ownership of guns by the individuals living in the region. Moreover, the government should be strict by providing licenses to those who are in charge of manufacturing firearms such as guns. This will, therefore, help to easily identify the institutions that are selling to an underage group of people and more so those have little knowledge about the possession of a gun. Furthermore, the government of the United States should take action upon the people who are violating the ownership of guns through jailing them so as to warn those who are still engaging in the act of gun violence (Soloperto, 2016). Also, the government should educate people on how to use guns and provide a limit to the people owning guns, and this will help to cope with the issue of misuse of guns.
In my view, I do consider the issue of gun control to be a market failure since it has resulted in widespread possession of guns by the people living in the United States. Gun manufacturers are usually careless and inhumane because they do not value human life as important, but instead, they are after money in that they sell it without limiting its users. Also, gun control is a collective action problem that needs to be addressed fully by the government of the United States because it affects a large number of people.
Also, illegal ownership of guns by the people is a collective action since most of them claim that they are using it for self-defense, therefore, encouraging its spread in the region. The US government should also come up with interventions such as fighting against those who are misusing guns, and this will help to reduce the issue of loss of lives by the people. Also, it should provide a forum in order to teach the people how to control their emotions whenever they are angry, hence reducing cases of conflicts between one person and another, which may result in loss of one’s life.
